I was trying to figure out what big question my little Learning Architecture / Reporting project is attempting to answer. I came up with the following:
How do people learn how to do their jobs?
I am currently organizing the problem into two architectural pieces:
Business Architecture (The Human Piece)
– How are people learning how to do their job now?
– How do we make this process easier/less painful?
Technology Architecture (The Tool Piece)
– What Programs currently help people learn how to do their jobs
+ Programs defined as a collection of services
+ Services defined as individual applications or tightly defined offering – such as Instructional Design
– How do these Programs interact with each other?
Staring at this brings up a whole ‘nother set of questions.
What do people actually do in our organization? How does this impact organizational performance?
And, once we determine that the activities of the people (individual and group) actually move organizational performance in the direction we want it to go in, how do we make those tasks easier?
This, of course, assumes that we know what direction the organization wants to go in in the first place.
